"From the window seat of the jet plane from Athens I returned to Gatwick armed with an ever-widening view of the world. Back to the house on the corner of Crawford Avenue from where I would finally vacate in ten days. Ten days spent organising, and packing up of last minute studio things, paintings and things into boxes which would temporarily reside in a variety of locations such as mum and John’s garage, Julie and Alan’s barely united attic, and Jennifer and Liam’s garage too. Friends Jim and Penny who had now established a shared house in Derbyshire, as their relationship further cemented, looked after some paintings also. Other paintings went to Jake and then to neighbour’s Kimberley and Victoria, and Tony and Karen.
On the last night I spent as a resident of Liverpool Jake and Carol and Kim and Tina all called round at different times to say goodbye. Jake, wanting me to remember his tunes, not his stresses, gave me a gift of a cassette tape with many favourites on it. The Long and Winding Road in particular. I loved that.
Kim actually sung a song as I made a pastel sketch of her. Here a respectful modesty as passing strangers eyed each other momentarily, intently. Like any two ferryboats might afloat the night-time Aegean."
